Achievements and shortcomings (2022-2023)

This school year english classes have become my favs, and this is because of my perception. English lessons have always been interesting for me, so this year I was especially concentrated, and actively took part in the lessons. I am very pleased with this year’s results, and I believe that I managed to improve my English level this year. One of the most successful works of the year is the research work I did in English(Psychology of human being). A mandatory condition for doing a long-term project is to enjoy the process, otherwise the result will not be satisfactory either. And I can clearly say that I am satisfied with both the approach and the result.
Also I loved our debates and discussions so much. My pesonal favorite way to learn, to do a lesson.

Assessing my work this year, I can say that I tried not to be absent from the lessons, I tried to actively take part in the lessons and talk as much as I can to improve my speaking skills, I need to work more on grammar, but in general I am satisfied with my work this year and the results that I have achieved and I am going to continue in the same spirit. I would rate myself a nine.

The development of artificial intelligence will help humanity

Artificial Intelligence has been around for a great deal of time now. The benefits of AI gradually improving our everyday life. The technology is being used for robots that greet at shopping centers or online search engines for offering suggestions.

AI simulates human reasoning in artificial intelligence systems. It is the ability of the computer program to think and learn. Everything can be taken to be AI if it involves a program that does something that we usually think depends on human intelligence.

Innovations in the Artificial Intelligence space have led to several benefits across multiple industries. Processes are effective and efficient, convenient technologies are extensively available, and forecasts are more accurate.

AI is developing at a tremendous pace. In some aspects, this is a huge help to people. You can look at the revolution in artificial intelligence (AI) in two ways—as two alternate universes, almost. One, where machines support and enhance the human. The other, where access to technology has created an impassable divide between the haves and have-nots.

I believe that the era of robotization is very close, which is a little scary. AI simplifies everyday life, performs many everyday tasks instead of people, searches for any information for a person, etc., and in the future a person will refuse to do something on his own. People are always looking for ways to make their job easier and never consider doing the work themselves without any help. This is why AI has emerged is so important and continues to develop.

Effects of Sleep Deprivation

Sleep deprivation is a condition that occurs if you don’t get enough sleep. Sleep deficiency is a broader concept.

Sleeping is a basic human need, like eating, drinking, and breathing. Like these other needs, sleeping is vital for good health and well-being throughout your lifetime.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 3 adults in the United States reported not getting enough rest or sleep every day.

Nearly 40% of adults report falling asleep during the day without meaning to at least once a month. Also, an estimated 50 to 70 million Americans have chronic, or ongoing, sleep disorders.

Sleep deficiency can lead to physical and mental health problems, injuries, loss of productivity, and even a greater likelihood of death.

Sleep deficiency is linked to many chronic health problems, including heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and depression.

Sleep deficiency is also linked to a higher chance of injury in adults, teens, and children.

Soul music

Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the African American community throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It has its roots in African-American gospel music and rhythm and blues. Soul music became popular for dancing and listening, where U.S. record labels such as Motown, Atlantic and Stax were influential during the Civil Rights Movement. Soul also became popular around the world, directly influencing rock music and the music of Africa. It also had a resurgence with artists like Erykah Badu under the genre neo-soul.

Neo soul (sometimes called progressive soul) is a genre of popular music. As a term, it was coined by music industry entrepreneur Kedar Massenburg during the late 1990s to market and describe a style of music that emerged from soul and contemporary R&B. Heavily based in soul music, neo soul is distinguished by a less conventional sound than its contemporary R&B counterpart, with incorporated elements ranging from funk, jazz fusion, hip hop, and African music to pop, rock, and electronic music. It has been noted by music writers for its traditional R&B influences, conscious-driven lyrics, and strong female presence.

Catchy rhythms, stressed by handclaps and extemporaneous body moves, are an important feature of soul music. Other characteristics are a call and response between the lead vocalist and the chorus and an especially tense vocal sound. The style also occasionally uses improvisational additions, twirls, and auxiliary sounds. Soul music reflects the African-American identity, and it stresses the importance of an African-American culture. The new-found African-American consciousness led to new styles of music that boasted pride in being black, and being such a creative genre of music, it emerged from the power struggle to increase black Americans’ awareness of their African ancestry. Soul music also combines different elements of music which includes gospel music, rhythm and blues and jazz.

By 1968, the soul music genre had begun to splinter. Some soul artists developed funk music, while other singers and groups developed slicker, more sophisticated, and in some cases more politically conscious varieties. By the early 1970s, soul music had been influenced by psychedelic and progressive rock, among other genres, leading to psychedelic and progressive soul. The United States saw the development of neo soul around 1994. There are also several other subgenres and offshoots of soul music.

The key subgenres of soul include the Motown style, a more pop-friendly and rhythmic style; deep soul and southern soul, driving, energetic soul styles combining R&B with southern gospel music sounds; Memphis soul, a shimmering, sultry style; New Orleans soul, which came out of the rhythm and blues style; Chicago soul, a lighter gospel-influenced sound; Philadelphia soul, a lush orchestral sound with doo-wop-inspired vocals; as well as psychedelic soul, a blend of psychedelic rock and soul music.

Soul music has its roots in traditional African-American gospel music and rhythm and blues and as the hybridization of their respective religious and secular styles – in both lyrical content and instrumentation – that began in the 1950s. The term «soul» had been used among African-American musicians to emphasize the feeling of being an African-American in the United States.

Most modern families have both parents working and as a result children spend less and less time with their parents.

I believe that parents who have small children should pay a lot of attention to children and not leave them at home, go to work. If you cannot provide for children then you should not have them. And what about teenagers, some teenagers stay in the room for hours, they like to be alone, and some need attention. It’s very hard to take sides. I think parents have to work to provide for their children and at the same time they need to spend a lot of time with their children, but doing both at the same time is impossible or very difficult, so I can’t blame anyone.

Both my parents work, they work late and I rarely see them. Sometimes I miss my mom, but I spend all my time with her, after her work. So i’m ok with that. I love being alone, I love spending time with myself, so I don’t have a problem with it, but that doesn’t mean everyone is the same, I’m sure there are a lot of teenagers, a lot of kids who don’t get enough attention from their parents. And this can lead to serious psychological problems in children in the future. Therefore, I believe that parents need to take care of this, and at least spend some free time with their children.

А very complex topic that has no common solution and each has its own truth.

Exercise III. Which of the skills mentioned in the article do you think is the most important? Why?

Hard to choose only one, cause all of them are really important. And without at least one of them is very difficult or impossible. But i’d like to say «Decision making»… It is important to be able to evaluate a situation and be confident in making a decision. Since it can be decisions on which a lot depends and the outcome of the situation will depend on you and on your decision. You have to make the right decision at the right time so as not to spoil everything.

Winter camp

Our school stands out for its camps, which are held after school in the summer and after the New Year in the winter. This winter camp lasted 3 weeks, during which we managed to go on several trips, watch movies, did biological experiments, read different stories and discuss, play games, etc. I love that time of school year, because we can get ready for the lessons, after holidays. Also we can have a good, unforgettable time, with school friends. I wouldn’t change a thing, it is already cool. My fav time.

How to tast wine

Take a small sip, not a big gulp, and hold it in your mouth, swirl it around and breath in a little. This oxygenates the wine and opens it up, rather like swirling.

Tasting is an extension of smelling. Most of the flavours you get when you taste wine come through your nose as it’s connected to the back of your mouth. The technical term for this is retronasal olfaction. Plus you are also getting your five tastes: bitter, sweet, salt, acid and umami (savouriness), and the physical feel from tannins, alcohol etc. of having the wine in your mouth.

Things to look for:

• Body, how thick does it feel in the mouth? Is it full or closer to water?

• Sweetness, can you feel sweetness on your tongue? How sweet is it?

• Are there tannins, that drying sensation you also get in strong tea, and if so how strong are they? Do they taste ripe or is there a greenness there?

• Is there a bitter note?

• Look for acidity, how fresh is the wine. Does it make your mouth water? Or is it smooth?

• Warmth, does the wine warm the mouth on the mouth after you have finished?

• And finally the finish, how long can you taste the wine after you have swallowed or spat it out?

What the taste can tell you:

Full-bodied wines tend to come from warmer climates, a syrah/shiraz from South Australia is going to feel bigger than one from the Northern Rhone. That body can come from oak ageing, alcohol or sweetness.

Tannins come from grape skins, seeds and stalk, and can tell you a lot. Certain grapes like Nebbiolo from Northern Italy has very strong tannins, in contrast Gamay from Beaujolais has light. Or if they are melty, it might be a sign that the wine is mature. Astringent tannins are usually a sign of underripe grapes or careless handling in the winery. Tannins also come from oak barrels and tend to be smoother

Sweetness might be a sign the wine is made from late harvest, grapes affected by noble rot or is fortified (with brandy added, like with port).

Certain grapes particularly Italian reds like Negromaro and Sangiovese have a distinct bitter note.

Acidity can be a marker of grape variety, riesling for example is a very high acid variety, but also cooler climate wines tend to be higher in acidity.

Warmth at the end is a sign of high alcohol usually meaning a warm climate. Also some varieties like Grenache and Zinfandel produce wines with naturally high levels of alcohol. Or the wine might be fortified.

And finally the finish, a long finish is usually a sign that the grapes were picked full of flavour suggesting a high quality wine.

New year, new start

As the new year begins, we feel that we need to make changes in our life, start on a new path, do new things, and say goodbye to old habits, problems and difficulties.

The beginning of a new year means you get a fresh start. New year, new me. Making resolutions in about accomplishing them and doing what you said you were going to improve on. It is not about making a goal or promise and then breaking it within a few weeks. This year is a new year and I want 2023 to be the best year of my life. This year I want to focus on myself. I have decided that I want to drink more water, eat healty and go in for sport, to better my health. I want to get rid of bad habits in 2023. I want my family to be more united and for that to happen we should have more family reunions. I don’t want many friends. I just want my people to stay with me. And the most important thing, I hope that there will be peace in my country, and The war will end. Happy New Year everyone.

Are you looking forward to leaving home?

I have been dreaming and planning to live alone for a long time. I want to learn to be independent, and more responsible. For me personally, being independent at home is not easy. And leaving home is one huge challenge I love to cook, and when I live alone, I will only cook what I want and healthier foods. And many, many other details that are actually important to me and are the reason why I want to live alone. I love my family and if possible I would like to live near them and see them every day. The reason is not in them at all.
